At Memba Care, we provide access to a wide variety of skills development programs for NDIS participants that are designed to help achieve development goals in a variety of areas. The programs are aimed at delivering both Core Supports and Capacity Building Supports, and are available in both individual and group settings.

These programs take a variety of forms and can be tailored to meet participants’ particular needs and circumstances. As we are in home care Brisbane specialists, our skills development programs are aimed at helping participants to build capacity and to live independently in their own homes as far as possible.

Benefits of skills development programs

Our skills development programs are created to assist participants to develop capacity in a variety Core Support areas. For instance, they can be geared towards enhancing daily life skills, such as household and domestic tasks, meal preparation and nutrition, as well as personal care and  maintaining hygiene, health and wellbeing.

Programs can also be focused on assisting participants to develop skills in a range of areas covered by Capacity Building Support funding, and which are designed to help build skills that grow and enhance the ability to live independently.

This can include developing social skills and positive behaviour management strategies, personal training and exercise, support to develop the skills needed to move into employment or education, along with a range of organisational skills, including managing a budget and finances.

Develop social and life skills

Skills development programs serve a range of functions, depending on your needs and development goals. At their heart is the idea of building confidence and capacity in the areas that are most appropriate for you.

This is why the focus can be on developing practical skills designed to assist you with daily living activities, or more intangible, social skills that enable you to engage with greater confidence in the local community. This can include helping you to use public transport, caring for a pet, home maintenance skills, and personal safety.

Skills development programs can also be directed at equipping you with skills for the future, such as improving your IT capability and understanding, or enhancing your financial acumen so that you are better prepared to live an independent life in your own home. We can also help you to develop your problem solving and communication skills so that you are better equipped for the workplace or joining a learning community.

Support to develop skills and capacity

Clients can access and participate in skills development programs in both individual and group, centre-based settings, and how you participate depends on your preferences, the skills you want to build, and the NDIS funding supports you have available.

We understand that the choice as to how you fulfil your goals and utilise your funding ultimately belongs to you, your family and your carers. That is why our NDIS support coordinators and plan managers work in partnership with you to help you determine what sorts of services are best suited to achieving your goals, and the skills you need to enhance to increase your capacity.

At all times, you have choice and control as to how you spend your NDIS budget, and the services and supports you access.
